Plus - games take as long as they take - so yesterday I played a few games and found I had been playing for about 5-6 hours!! About as long as I might have been at a real snooker table - only difference was I had racked up a 50 break - which I have never done in real life on a full-size table!!Īnyway - it amazed me with the attention to detail, the amount you can customise and the realism. I was even more surprised at how accurately it plays - you have to know about safety play and tactics or you will get thrashed even on the easiest modes and it is all at the gentlest of pace - unlike most console game - you are under no time pressures and can go off and make a cup of tea between shots!! I didn't know Snooker games existed - isn't it all dominated by the Americans (?) and was surprised to see this in my local video shop at about the time I was looking forward with anticipation, to the British Open in Brighton with Ronnie et al!!
It is very accurate and is almost like watching Snoooker on the BBC - except that you are there in it and have to make your shots!

One of that rare breed - a PS2 game that can be enjoyed by adults - probably more so than children!! There is another rather amusing sound effect that pops up occasionally, but I won't ruin that surprise for you.Īll in all this is a game that I actually found relaxing to play, relying on skill rather than reflexes, and one that I would certainly recommend buying. The sounds are realistic too, the audience coughing will amuse at first but can grate on your nerves, particularly as it appears to be on loop and you can actually anticipate the next cough! A turn cough off option would have been a very welcome addition to the option screen. This however seems to take into account your previous play which is pleasing to note. I was impressed with the commentary, so many games in the past have praised you throughout then slated you as soon as you make a mistake, completely dismissing your previous achievements. Plus it is a game that you can return to at any stage. Of course the 2 player mode adds yet further life, but should you only play in 1 player mode there is enough to keep you going for several weeks. Should you get bored with that there are certain scenario matches you can take part in, re-living classic matches from yesteryear. The first season is most likely to be used for practice before determination to win sets in. The game is played throughout individual seasons and encourages play by unlocking certain events and memorabilia through winning tournaments and achieving high breaks. In fact sometimes it appears that the opponent's skills can improve depending on your own performance, which at times can appear bias.

Having said that though this doesn't make the game simple by any means as some of your opponents are very professional indeed should you be fortunate enough to make it to the final.
Most importantly the accuracy is spot on, the computer aiding you on your shots, which helps tremendously enabling you to soon rack up high breaks. The graphics are very impressive and anyone entering the room really would think you were watching a snooker match (other than when the view changes to the players, Steve Davis is robotic but not that robotic). Still I found this for £2.00, less than I paid on the Commodore, and I am pleased to note things have moved on. I am not really into sports games and the last time I owned a snooker game was on a Commodore in the eighties and I had to play on a black and white TV. When I bought this game I wasn't even sure if I would enjoy a snooker game.
